The Carolina Panthers are now 4-1 after keeping a lead in the fourth quarter! The final score was 27-24. Carolina’s offense puts on a show and begin to look like an actual NFC contender who can get to the Super Bowl. The player of the game award has to go to Cam Newton. He had a fantastic game and looked like he was better than his 2015 MVP self. One important factor of Cam Newton’s performance was that he had ZERO interceptions and only a couple of incomplete passes. Newton threw for 355 yards, completed 26 of 33 passes, and threw 3 touchdowns. It was a big game for Cam Newton and a great way to close out the critics after a tough week. If Newton continues to play well then Carolina will have a deep run in the playoffs and win the NFC South.

In Detroit we got to see Cam use his offense in many different ways. One thing we saw was Newton’s quick shovel pass to Christian McCaffrey for a touchdown in the first half. Everyone expects Newton to run into the endzone when he is close but Carolina surprised the Lions defense with the pass to Christian. Ed Dickson put on a show and helped Cam Newton out a lot after having a career game with 5 receptions for 175 yards. He was shredding the Lions defensive line and gave Newton easy completions. Dickson is really stepping up to the plate while Greg Olsen is out.

It the second quarter we saw Cam Newton complete a 31 yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin. That throw was a complete dime as Newton threw it right into the hands of the six foot five receiver. What the throw showed us was that Cam is back and is feeling the connection between himself and the receivers. Before this game Cam had some passes where he overthrew the receivers and could not feel where he was throwing. Yesterday he was hitting on point and was an unstoppable quarterback giving the Lions a tough time trying to stop Newton’s flow. Kelvin Benjamin had 4 receptions for 58 yards and we can say it was a great game for him.

In the last minute of the second quarter Newton threw a perfect pass to Funchess in the back of the endzone. He threw it only where Funchess could quickly snatch it above the defenders. It was a beautiful 10 yard touchdown pass from Cam making it 17-10 just before the half. Funchess had a great game in his home state receiving 7 passes for 53 yards. Devin is really starting to feel himself in the Panthers offense and he is a fantastic option for Cam when he is open!

I am really impressed with Newton’s performance after the game and I can’t wait to see what Cam brings on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. It will be a good battle between two 4-1 teams. If Newton continues to impress with his arm then Carolina will take it away. This is the quarterback that the Panthers need and thanks to Newton the Panthers are 4-1! Keep Pounding!!!!
