Seven Cheap Buys in DraftKings for Week 9
Andrew Erickson, back again helping you find those value players to finish setting your lineups. Because let us be honest, you have to find a few diamonds in the rough if you want to win big in daily fantasy tournaments. This article lists seven great players that are on the cheap this week in DraftKings for Week 9.
Jared Goff: LAR @ NYG
Goff was featured in my Fantasy Football Week 9: Which Guy Do I Start? article because of his matchup against the Giants. Goff this season has had four games averaging 19.45 fantasy points and three games where he has averaged 10.48 fantasy points. The lower average games were all poor matchups, but this week Goff has a favorable matchup against the Giants defense that has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to the quarterback position in 2017. Coming in at a price of $5,500, Goff is a nice safe play for at least 19 fantasy points this week. I like stacking him with some of his cheap wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Sammy Watkins for tournament play.
Drew Stanton: ARI @ SF
Who does not love a cheaper than dirt play for DraftKings? Well, I find that it helps me play studs like the Ezekiel Elliot and Todd Gurley, so if that is your plan Drew Stanton could be your guy. The 49ers have allowed the second most fantasy points to the QB position and Stanton has had success against them in the past. As an Arizona Cardinal, Stanton has played the 49ers twice (2016 and 2014). In both games he threw for two touchdowns. In 2016 in particular he threw two touchdowns to Larry Fitzgerald after filling in for an injured Carson Palmer. Once again stepping in for an injured Palmer, Stanton is a legitimate fantasy option this week.
Orleans Darkwa: NYG vs LAR
The only team that allows more points to the running back position than the 49ers are the Los Angeles Rams. Despite their inability to run the ball this season, Orleans Darkwa has surprisingly been the bright spot in a struggling running game for the New York Giants. Darwka over his last three games has had at least eight carries and at least 69 rushing yards in two of them. It would behoove the Giants to give the ball more to Darkwa as the only time he went over 100 yards was against the Denver Broncos number one run defense when he received 21 carries. If he can get double digit carries against the Rams, he will have a productive outing.
Johnathan Stewart: CAR vs ATL
When you play in tournament games, you need to start a few players that make you sick to your stomach. *Puts Johnathan Stewart in lineup*. The Panthers have moved on from Kelvin Benjamin in hopes of running the ball more. Stewart is still the main ball carrier, and thus should see work against the Falcons. Atlanta has allowed nine red zone touches to the RB position over the last two weeks, so I like Stewart’s touchdown upside. Stewart has seen double digit carries in all but one game this season so he is a cheap volume play at worst.
T.Y Hilton: IND @ HOU
My man T.Y. Hilton! Somebody dropped him in one of my seasonal leagues and you better believe he is in my starting lineup this week against the Texans. Houston over the last four weeks has allowed the fifth most fantasy points to the WR position. The Colts offense has been struggling, but it just takes on long pass or broken play for Hilton to have a big game. Hilton has still been getting targets and has a great history against the Texans. In 10 games against the Texans he has averaged 94.2 receiving yards and .7 touchdowns. A number one receiver at less than $5,000 is a steal.
Sammy Watkins: LAR @ NYG
Another player featured on my Fantasy Football Week 9: Which Guy Do I Start? Watkins is the ultimate boom or bust play in Week 9. There is no floor for Watkins, but we all know his ceiling can bust through the roof. Watkins is a high upside play against the Giants who have allowed the second most fantasy points to the wide receiver positon over the last two weeks. Janoris Jenkins will also be missing the game, so you need to start him in this matchup. Go for the Goff-Watkins stack! The other Rams receivers are also descent plays as well in daily formats.
George Kittle: SF vs ARI
With Pierre Garcon on the shelf, Kittle should see an uptick in targets in Week 9. QB C.J. Beathard only throws short passes, so Kittle could be on the receiving end on a descent amount of targets. He is dirt cheap and has a nice matchup against the Arizona Cardinals who have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points and targets to the TE over the last four weeks.
