Football has taught me a lot of things. It has taught me that I know myself better than anyone else, so if I know I am capable of something I should pursue it no matter what anyone says. It has taught me how to overcome any obstacles that come my way. But maybe even more than that, football has taught me to expect the unexpected. The beauty of this game is that anything can happen. You can look at the numbers all day and make predictions about what is going to happen, but you can never truly predict football.
If you believed the media conversation leading up to our game Sunday against Jacksonville you would have expected one of the biggest blowouts in the history of the NFL. But you would have been wrong, because this is football and you can’t predict football. When I got to the stadium Sunday morning knowing that Champ would be back I would never have guessed I would have 11 tackles in the game. But I was wrong, because this is football.
Jacksonville gave us a great game. Justin Blackmon is easily one of the most talented receivers in the game and he went out there Sunday and made sure everyone watching knew that. Their whole team fought hard and I think they walked away with a little more respect from Broncos fans than they walked in with.
That’s part of the beauty of the game. On any given Sunday anything can happen. At this point in the season my teammates and I know the target is squarely on our back. Everyone wants to be the team that can go out there and give us a loss. We’re going to get every team’s best effort every single week so we’re going to play every game like it’s the playoffs and survival is on the line. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing Jacksonville or Baltimore or Kansas City we know that no victory can ever be assumed.
We’re expecting a battle this weekend, too, against a really good Indianapolis team. Fortunately it’s a battle that we will be fully equipped for. With Champ and Von missing the first part of the season our defense has been playing with holes in the armor for the first six games. Now that our defense will be back to full strength it’s time for us to go out there and silence the critics who think defense is a weakness of this team.
It really can’t be overstated how important those two guys are to our defense. Champ is a legend and a leader for our team and we will always have a better chance of winning when he is out there on the field. Von is an absolute beast and easily the most talented rusher in the entire league. Not only that, but he has spent the past six games getting in the best shape of his life so he can go out there and make a statement. We’ve been waiting all season to put our best defense out on the field. We take nothing for granted but we’re excited to show everyone what we look like at full strength.
Thanks everyone for your support so far this season. It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into Week 7 but time flies when you’re having fun. Broncos up!
