With the 10-2 Denver Broncos set to host the 5-7 Tennessee Titans Sunday afternoon, Reed Marks took a minute to answer five questions on the Broncos’ coming opponent for our “Behind Enemy Lines.”
1. Is Chris Johnson primed to have a big day?
Chris Johnson has struggled this season to find much real estate on the ground. The Titans invested a first-round pick on offensive lineman Chance Warmack, but still have plenty of problems up front. With the injury to Jake Locker, teams are just dropping more guys in the box, making it even harder for Johnson. Johnson has struggled and there is no reason to think that won’t continue this week.
2. Who the heck is the Titans QB these days?
Jake Locker has been lost for the season, making way for the former Buffalo Bills starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick was seen as a really good insurance policy for the Titans going into the season, but he has struggled with turnovers. He has eight passing touchdowns, but seven interceptions and two lost fumbles.
3. How big has tight end Delanie Walker been to the Titans’ offense this year?
Walker has been a great target for both Locker and Fitzpatrick this season, as he is the second-leading receiver on the team. Besides Kendall Wright, Walker is the teams largest threat. Walker has 45 receptions for 454 yards and a team-high five receiving touchdowns.
4. The Titans have given up a league-low 16 passing touchdowns; how?
The Titans can cause some problems for Manning on the Broncos passing game on Sunday with their pass defense. They allow 221 yards per game through the air, good for the seventh-best in the league. Alterraun Verner is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL that nobody has heard of, with five interceptions, two of them in the redzone.
5. How can Tennessee beat the Broncos this Sunday?
They can’t. The Titans have a big boy defense, but a junior varsity offense that just simply cannot score with the Broncos. If Locker were healty it may be different, but Fitzpatrick just turns the ball over too much. For the Titans to win, the Broncos will need to completely self-destruct.
