After both AFC WildCard playoff games, the San Diego Chargers and Indianapolis Colts moved onto the Divisional round.
That means the No. 6 seed Chargers – who beat the Bengals 27-10 – will now head to the Mile High City to face the No. 1 seed Broncos.
The game kicks off at 2:40 p.m. MST on Sunday January, 12. It will be televised on CBS with Jim Nantz and Phil Simms the commentators.
For Denver and San Diego, this will be the AFC West foes’ first postseason meeting. Peyton Manning is 0-2 against the Chargers in the playoffs, though.
Notably, the Chargers were the last team to beat the Broncos, on Thursday night in Week 15. San Diego controlled the clock and Ryan Matthews ran the rock well, to the tune of 127 yards and one touchdown. They kept Peyton Manning and Denver’s awesome offense off the field as much as possible, holding the Broncos to 18 yards on the ground and picking a pass off after making them one-dimensional.
“We know what’s ahead of us, Denver’s an awesome team,” Philip Rivers said after his WildCard win. “We were able to win there few weeks ago, so we’ll be confident. But, it’s going to be a tough task.”
Following the loss to San Diego, the Broncos bounced back strong.
Denver won back-to-back road games to end the season, in Houston and Oakland, and in convincing fashion.
The Broncos turned it on in the second half to out-score the Texans 21-0 and win 27-13, and were spectacular from the start against the Raiders, blowing them out 31-0 at halftime when Manning was pulled, winning 34-14.
Denver’s offense set multiple records – 606 total points, most passing touchdowns (55) and passing yards for Manning (5,477) – and San Diego can score as well, setting up for what could be a barn-burner.
In charge of the Chargers’ offense is Mike McCoy, who was the Broncos offensive coordinator from 2009-2012. McCoy is currently San Diego’s head coach.
The first time Denver and San Diego met, the Broncos won 28-20 in Week 10. In that win, Manning threw for four touchdowns, three of which went to Demaryius Thomas.
