Here at cover32 – New York Jets, we will bring you a preview of each position battle daily, leading up to the Jets training camp on July 23rd.

Next on the list: Offensive, Defensive line

Enjoy!

O-Line

Projected starters: LT-D’Brickashaw Ferguson, LG-Brian Winters, C-Nick Mangold, RG-Willie Colon, RT-Breno Giacomini

Projected back-up’s: OL-Oday Aboushi, G-William Cambpell, T-Dakota Dozier (R), OL-Caleb Schlauderaff

Battling for roster spot: C-Dalton Freeman, G-Patrick Ford, G-William Campbell, T-Ben Ijalana, T-Brent Qvale, T-Markus Zusevics

All eyes are on: Brian Winters. Entering his sophomore season, Winters will look to develop into the guard the Jets envisioned when they drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Winters had a solid rookie year, showing flashes in pass protection and in the run-game. He has the size (6’4) to become a dominant force along the Jets above-average unit he plays with. With the help of Nick Mangold, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and Willie Colon — Winters has no excuse to fail, when it comes to the mental aspect of his development. These three veterans have the leadership and experience necessary to help Winters grow as a player. Keep an eye on no. 67 in this year’s training camp in Cortland, NY.

D-Line

Projected starters: DE-Muhammad Wilkerson, DT-Sheldon Richardson, NT-Damon Harrison

Projected back-up’s: DE-Leger Douzable, NT- Kenrick Ellis, DE-IK Enemkpali (R)

Battling for roster spot: DT-TJ Barnes, DT-Tevita Finau, DE-Zach Thompson (R), DE-Anthony Grady (R), DE-Tim Fugger, DE-Kerry Hyder (R)

SheldonAll eyes are on: Sheldon Richardson. Coming off a season in which Richardson was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year, there’s a lot to be excited about. Richardson proved to be a terror to go up against, racking up 78 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and 2 rushing touchdowns. He also showed off his speed, chasing down the likes of Cam Newton and EJ Manual in 2013. Richardson was voted (by this peers) no. 94 in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2014. Everyone, including the Jets coaching staff and front office, will be watching Richardson — hoping he takes a leap in his second year as a pro… and possibly add a pro-bowl trip to his resume.
